What is DAC7, and why is it worth understanding?

  1. DAC7 is a European Union regulation.

The directive was adopted on 22 March 2021 as a further step in cooperation between EU states on tax information.

  2. DAC7 introduces no new tax.

Its purpose is to make transactions carried out through digital platforms more transparent.

  3. In Poland the DAC7 rules have applied since 1 July 2024.

That is when the act implementing the directive into Polish law came into force.

  4. DAC7 covers, among other things, services performed in person.

That category can also include services carried out by beauty salons, hairdressers and wellness specialists.

  5. The obligations fall on operators of digital platforms.

They may include identifying sellers, verifying data and passing certain information to the tax administration.

  6. Not every booking system automatically falls under DAC7.

What counts is how the platform actually works and what role it plays between the provider and the client.

Should your booking system know how much you really earn on every appointment?

It matters, because not every system works the same way.
And it is the platform's model that can count when DAC7 is assessed.

A booking
is not a payment

The client books a time, but pays for the service directly to you.

The price in the calendar
is not always the final one

A discount, an extra service or a change to the treatment can change the final amount.

A calendar is there to help
you run the salon

It does not have to stand between you and your client in the settlement.

Terminka helps you book appointments.
It does not step into the settlement between you and your client.

The client books an appointment in Terminka, you carry out the service, and the settlement happens directly between the client and your salon.

The client books an appointment

They choose the salon, the service, the specialist and an available time.

You carry out the service

The service is provided by your salon. Terminka gives you the tool for organising bookings and the calendar.

The client settles directly with you

Terminka neither accepts nor passes on payment for the service and charges no commission on the value of an appointment.

In its current model Terminka has been assessed as carrying a relatively limited risk of falling under the obligations arising from DAC7.

There is a legal analysis behind this statement.

Terminka's model has been analysed against the DAC7 rules, including how bookings, payments, prices and settlements between the salon and the client are handled.

An analysis of Terminka's model

The assessment covers the way Terminka actually takes part in booking and handling an appointment.

Payments and settlements under the lens

One of the key elements of the analysis was that Terminka takes no part in payments and settlements for the salon's services.

Deliberate product development

New features that could change the platform's role are analysed for their effect on DAC7 as well.

Terminka earns from its software, not from the value of the services your salon performs.

  • 0% commission per appointment
  • No intermediary in payment for the service
  • Settlement directly with the client

Questions about Terminka and DAC7?

We have gathered the most important answers about how Terminka works today.

What does DAC7 mean for a salon owner?

DAC7 introduces no new tax and changes no rules of taxation. What it does introduce are information and reporting obligations for certain operators of digital platforms.

Does Terminka report my appointments to the tax authorities?

In its current model Terminka does not report data about Partners' appointments to tax authorities under the DAC7 rules.

How would Terminka know how much a client actually paid?

Terminka holds no reliable information about the amount actually paid. The price shown in the system comes from the salon and may differ from the final settlement with the client.

How does payment for an appointment work in Terminka?

The client settles directly with the salon. Terminka neither accepts nor passes on payment for Partners' services and charges no commission on the value of an appointment.

Why does the way a system works matter for DAC7?

What counts in a DAC7 assessment is the platform's real role — among other things its part in the booking, the payment and the settlement, and what it knows about the service performed and the Partner's remuneration.
